Asymmetrical Engagement Ring – Julie
“My then boyfriend proposed to me with a stone and set me to the task of choosing the design of the ring. Knowing almost nothing about engagement rings I started to google different images. Eventually, I ended up googling a “hexagon engagement ring” and found Amanda’s website. It struck me, how different her work was from what I’ve seen before. It was inventive, minimalist, geometric and at the same time – warm and organic. I looked at other websites, but kept coming back to her rings.
When I met her in person, I saw, that she is someone with whom I’d like to work with. She was friendly and patient and helped me to verbalise my ideas. She suggested that I come up with a set of images that I liked, a sort of mood board, and that was a really interesting introspective exercise, that I’ve never done before. I treated it as an opportunity to think about who I am and where I’m going to. Amanda used those images as inspiration for the first drafts of the ring. Then we started to work with them. It felt like a collaborative art-project. Amanda’s patience and attention to detail helped a lot in going through all decisions. If I was in doubt I trusted Amanda’s sense of what would work and it paid off.
I feel that it is my piece as I know what it’s based on, and that ‘mood board’ really worked. The ring is personal on many levels and I keep finding new meanings for the design details. It may sound bizarre, but it speaks to me and represents my values in a way. I feel like I wear a beautiful piece of art and it fills me with joy and sense of purpose.
The whole project was insightful and highly rewarding.”
